Setting Boundaries

When my porch was rebuilt last year, someone from the city came out and draw up a survey of my property. The survey dictates my property and distinguishes the property from the city and my neighbor, by doing this a boundary line was drawn. The boundary line was used by the architect to set a value to rebuild the porch. The same thing can be said about life, relationships with others, and those we serve. My property line is what I value, how I feel, what I need, what I believe, what I am good at, how I manage relationships, and how I minister to others.

Knowing my value is essential to any relationship or activities I engage in

When a property line is set, one’s self-awareness, self-definition, their compacity to love others and offer empathy becomes greater. So, it’s ok to set boundaries, why? because it builds a solid foundation of who you are and you won’t get tripped up with insecurities, lose focus, and hurt others. So, setting boundaries is not bad or selfish because you are taking care of yourself, so you can better care for someone else.

You have the right to change the price of what it cost to access you BUT be upfront with the people you are setting boundary lines with. This will eliminate any misunderstanding that you don’t have time or their needs are not important.

Guess what it’s ok to say no, the perfect example of setting boundaries is Jesus. When He was overwhelmed, or tired He would take a rest. If Jesus had a busy day of ministry, He would go away to be by himself or He would often spend time in the presence of His Father. Jesus knew how to prioritize and how to set a line between His needs and the needs of people. Jesus is the perfect example of self-care. He knew His cutoff point; He knew when it was time to get replenished. Psalm 23 says “He restores our soul”, He refreshes, He replenishes, He restores us mentally, emotionally, physically, and Spiritually, and He fills us when we prioritize our soul care. We have to take care of ourselves if we are going to care for people. If we continue to take on everything without taking a break, we will eventually become frustrated with the people, with the work we are doing. You are allowed to change the price it cost to access you. #ROSIECenter#knowyourvalue #selfcare
